Pirelli Calendar 2014 Presentation Event

Published for the first time in 1964, the Pirelli Calendar is
celebrating its 50th anniversary in Milan with a series of initiatives and a special evening event
for guests, journalists and collectors from all over the world, in Pirelli’s contemporary art
venue, HangarBicocca.

Pirelli is organising a host of initiatives to celebrate the anniversary. In June a special shoot
was arranged in New York with star photographers Peter Lindbergh and Patrick Demarchelier
(the former shot the calendars for 1996 and 2002, the latter those of 2005 and 2008) and a
cast of models who encapsulate the look of the most recent Calendars: Alessandra Ambrosio,
Helena Christensen, Isabeli Fontana, Miranda Kerr, Karolina Kurkova and Alek Wek.
To coincide with the traditional gala event, which will play host to around 800 guests, today
sees the opening of a retrospective exhibition in Pirelli’s ‘HangarBicocca’ venue in Milan. The
exhibition, which will be open to guests at the event, and then to the public on 23 and 24
November 2013, is a chance to explore 50 years of “The Cal”™, in more than 160 images by
more than 30 photographers who have worked on the Calendar over the years.
To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Pirelli has decided not to produce a 2014 Calendar,
but instead to release the unpublished 1986 Pirelli Calendar created by Helmut Newton,
which to date has been kept under wraps in the company’s archives. The lengthy
reconstruction work carried out by the Pirelli Foundation contributed to making this project
possible.
Almost 30 years on, this calendar, which capitalises on the lucky coincidence that 1986 and
2014 have the same calendar year, will now see the light as part of the anniversary
celebrations.
